Bosanska Kostajnica (Serbian: Босанска Костајница or "Bosanska Kostajnica"; Bosnian: "Bosanska Kostajnica"; Croatian: "Bosanska Kostajnica") is a town and municipality in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The municipality was created from part of the pre-war municipality of Bosanski Novi (today Novi Grad). It is located across the Una from Hrvatska Kostajnica in Croatia.

Name

The town name was changed to just Kostajnica (Костајница), however, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has ruled the town be changed back to Bosanska Kostajnica. It was also known as "Srpska Kostajnica" (Српска Костајница).

Demographics

1991

In 1991, the population of the town of Bosanska Kostajnica numbered 5,276 people, including:
*3,162 Serbs (60%) (See: Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina)
*1,708 Muslims by nationality (32%)
*199 Yugoslavs (4%)
*137 Croats (3%) (See: Croats of Bosnia and Herzegovina)
*70 others (1%)

Note: The vast majority of those who declared as Muslims by nationality in 1991 have considered themselves Bosniaks since the Bosnian War.

2006
