Guru Nanak Khalsa College (King's Circle)

Guru Nanak Khalsa College in South Central Mumbai was established in 1934 by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. It's located opposite to Don Bosco High School (Matunga) and a short distance from the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute.

The motto of Guru Nanak Khalsa College is, "The Essence of Wisdom is Service to Mankind".

Sports

The College has an excellent tradition in sports. It was said at one time, that it was impossible for the College to not be represented in the Olympics. At least one player of the Hockey team was from the College. The Hockey Ground was used for one of the matches of the Hockey World Cup when it was played in Bombay. The India women's national field hockey team that won the Gold in the Moscow Olympics had many players from the college. One of the best, Happy Phul, was a leading men's hockey player and represented the nation. Joaquim Carvalho, a leading men's hockey player, was from the College.

The Handball team of the college during the late seventies and early eighties used to be Bombay Handball Superleague Champions for more than 5 years in a row. Perhaps 7 years in a row.

Academics

The College was amongst the first institutions to start a Masters Program in Electronics. It has a Chemistry Lab to match the University Department of Chemical Technology.

Alumni

Kabir Bedi, Anant Mahadevan, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Shahid Kapoor and various other movie stars have been alumni from this college. Its proximity to Kapoor Lane, where Prithviraj Kapoor stayed, also brought together stalwarts like the entire Kapoor clan, Manmohan Krishna, K. N. Singh and others to frequent the Hockey Grounds.

Films

The college has appeared in many Indian films, including "Phool aur Kaante", the Bollywood hit, "" (1997) and the Kannada film "AK-47" (1998) starring Shivraj Kumar.
