Romsdal Museum

The Romsdal Museum (no: Romsdalsmuseet) in Molde, Norway was founded by Peter Tønder Solemdal in 1912, and is one of the largest and most extensive folk museums in the country.

Departments:

* The open-air museum at Reknes in Molde has a collection of more than 40 buildings (barns, farm houses, stables, workshops etc.) from the Romsdal region, dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries. A recreated city street shows what most of the city looked like previous to the 1916 fire. The area also hosts an outdoor scene for concerts.

* Museum of the Fisheries, a collection of 15 buildings, recreating the maritime culture of a coastal community in the 17 and 1800s. It is located on the island Hjertøya in the Molde archipelago, and is serviced by water taxi from Molde.

* Museum of the Garment Industry, in Isfjord in Rauma

* Nesset Parsonage in Eidsvåg in Nesset is the national poet and Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson's childhood home.

* Veøy Parsonage and Mediveal church. The church dates back to the late 12th century, when Veøy was an important trading center. Veøy is of great archeological interest.

* The museum has an indoor collection, showing regional life and findings from Mesolithic times through the German occupation in World War II.

In addition, the museum has a library and several archives for prints, text and photographs.
