Floyd entered
Burlington Central High School in September 1944 and from then until graduation in June 1949 participated in track and field, basketball and football. He was a member of the Hamilton Junior Wildcats in 1949 and part of 1950. The remainder of the latter year and up to and including 1952 Floyd was a member of theHamilton Tiger-Cats , and in 1952 played lacrosse for the Burlington Braves.Floyd was assistant coach for the McMaster Marauders in 1952-53 and played for the Kitchener-Waterloo Flying Dutchmen of the ORFU in 1953-54.
Floyd took employment in Kitchener-Waterloo in 1955 and it was there that an interest in football officiating began. Floyd returned to the Hamilton area and became a member of the local football officials association. In 1968 Floyd was selected to the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union officiating panel and from 1969-82 was a member of the
Canadian Football League officiating panel.Floyd continues to enjoy golfing, skiing, sailing, fishing, hunting, baseball and badminton.
