Richard "Dick" McGee Morse,
Ph.D. (26 June 1922 –17 April 2001 ) was a Latin Americanistscholar andprofessor atPrinceton University .Morse was born in
Summit, New Jersey ,USA , but moved with his family at a young age toGreenwich, Connecticut . In 1939, Morse attendedPrinceton University where he studiedliterature withAllan Tate andR. P. Blackmur . As a student, Morse studied inCuba ,Mexico ,Chile ,Argentina , andBrazil , and graduated "magna cum laude " with a major in theSchool of Public and International Affairs .Following
World War II , Morse continued his academic and literary career, becoming an expert inLatin American studies . He marriedEmerante de Pradine , aHaiti an singer, and had one child,Richard Auguste Morse , who currently resides inPort-au-Prince , Haiti.Morse died on
April 17 ,2001 , at his home inPétionville , Haiti.
