Japan .As of 2008, the ward has an estimated
population of 82,035 and the density of 3,674.82 persons per km². The total area is 22.28 km².The city gained a city status on
November 1 ,1978 .Ayase is home to
Naval Air Facility Atsugi , which is one of the keyUnited States military bases on theKantō region .Transportation
Ayase has no railway stations. (A neighborhood of the same name in
Adachi, Tokyo causes confusion.) The only railway that passes through Ayase is theTōkaidō Shinkansen . Stations near the city includeKashiwadai Station andSagamino Station (on theSagami Railway in neighboring Ebina) andChōgo Station (on theOdakyu Enoshima Line in Fujisawa).Five numbered prefectural highways crisscross the city. The Tōmei Expressway passes through, and has a highway bus stop in Ayase.
