CBAM is a radio station broadcasting at 106.1 MHz (FM) from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, and is the local Radio One station of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. CBAM broadcasts with a power of 69,500 watts.

History

The station has been on the air since 1939. Originally broadcasting at AM 960, it moved to 1050 and then to 1070 on March 29, 1941 as CBA. The original city of licence was Sackville, the location of the transmitter site. The city of licence was later changed to Moncton in 1968 when the CBA transmitter site moved.

On January 8, 2007, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved the station's proposed move to 106.1 FM. [ [http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Decisions/2007/db2007-8.htm] CRTC Decisions 2007-01-08] The new CBC FM transmitter signed on in January 2008 and the call sign was changed to CBAM-FM. The engineers were at the 1070 AM transmitter site on Dover road to say good bye to the old AM signal, that signed off for good on April 7, 2008 at about 8:37 a.m. ADT shortly after the 8:30 CBC news with Dave MacDonald. The original CBA transmitter site at the Tantramar Marshes near Sackville continue to broadcast Radio Canada International around the world on shortwave radio as well as relay broadcasts for several foreign shortwave broadcasters. For the purposes of CRTC licensing, the Sackville complex is now designated under the call letters CKCX.
