Pulaski Tech offers more than 50 associate degree and certificate programs of study. Pulaski Tech maintains articulation agreements with the accredited universities in its service area. Pulaski Tech's continuing education and business outreach program is one of the largest of its kind among two-year colleges in the state, serving approximately 11,265 individuals in 2005-06. Last year, Pulaski Tech provided customized training programs for more than 160 area businesses and industries. Pulaski Tech is the largest source of transfer students to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Institutional Effectiveness

Pulaski Tech has developed and launched "PTC 2005: A Strategic Plan for Serving Central Arkansas," which serves as a long-range agenda for the college and a means of communicating college goals to the community. The college has also initiated a comprehensive system for measuring and assessing student outcomes.

Campus and Locations

Pulaski Technical College's main campus is located on a 40 acre wooded campus at 3000 West Scenic Drive in western North Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Campus Center, completed in 2006, is a convert|92000|sqft|m2|-2|sing=on one-stop center for student services and contains classrooms, a food court, a 210-seat lecture hall, a cyber lounge, study areas, student activities and student organization offices, cashier stations, an advising center, a learning assistance center and the Education and Academic Success Division. The center also features space for college and community events and activities. The Administration building, constructed in 1976 and expanded in 1984, is a modern facility containing classrooms, faculty offices, a student center and snack bar, the Office of the President, the Fine Arts and Humanities Division, the Technical and Industrial Programs Division and the College Advancement Division. The Science building, completed in 1996, contains convert|27500|sqft|m2|-1 and houses the college's Mathematics/Natural and Social Sciences Division, faculty offices and laboratories. The Information Technology Center, completed in 1999, contains convert|40000|sqft|m2|-3 of instructional space, computer laboratories, an open computer lab, and a multipurpose community room. It houses the Information Technology Division, as well as academic and administrative Computing Services. The Allied Health Education Center, completed in 2002, contains convert|33000|sqft|m2|-2 and houses Allied Health and Human Services Division programs, as well as multipurpose classrooms and offices. The Industrial Technology Center, built in 1984, provides laboratory and lecture rooms for the Machine Tool Technology, Welding and Diesel Mechanics programs. The Business building contains classrooms, offices, and several computer laboratories and is located across from the entrance to the Main Building. Constructed in 1986, it houses the Accounting, Office Supervision, Legal Secretarial, Office Technology and Paralegal Technology programs. The Automotive Technology Center, constructed in 1987 and expanded in 1989, features classroom space and state-of-the-art automotive repair and collision repair laboratories. The Ottenheimer Library, completed in 2006, contains convert|15000|sqft|m2|-2 of library collections, technology and reference material. In addition, the library houses an information literacy classroom and exhibits area.

Off-campus Locations

A Little Rock location at 8901 Kanis Road opened in fall 2004 and offers technical and general education courses to the college community. The Business and Industry Center, which opened in 2000, is located on the campus of the Aerospace Education Center at 3303 East Roosevelt Road in Little Rock. The center features computer and industrial training laboratories, as well as a multi-purpose conference room and meeting space. The Aviation Technology Center, constructed in 1985, is located at the North Little Rock Airport and houses the Aviation Maintenance Technology programs. The hangar-style laboratory and lecture rooms encompass convert|11000|sqft|m2|-2. Pulaski Tech Little Rock- South site will open in fall 2008 at the former location of the Little Rock Expo Center on I-30.The Saline County Adult Education Center is located on Interstate-30 in Benton and provides General Education Development (GED) preparation and testing, basic skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (WAGE) and computer literacy programs for residents of Saline County and the surrounding area. In fall 2002, Pulaski Tech opened the Saline County Career Center on the former Alcoa Reynolds campus at Bauxite. The college offers secondary career programs for high school students at the location, as well as technical programs for the general population.

History

Pulaski Technical College at North Little Rock, an institution of higher education, is an integral part of the Arkansas Technical and Community College System maintained by the State of Arkansas. The college is governed by a seven-member board of trustees, appointed by the governor, and derives its support largely from student tuition and fees and legislative appropriations.

Pulaski Tech's history dates back to October 1945 when it was established as the Little Rock Vocational School under the supervision of the Little Rock Public Schools. In October 1969, administration of the school was transferred to the Arkansas Board of Vocational Education and the school was named Pulaski Vocational Technical School.

Early in the 1970s, convert|137|acre|km2|1 declared surplus by the Veterans Administration were transferred to the North Little Rock School District and Pulaski was given 40 acres for a new school site. Pulaski Vo-Tech moved from 14th and Scott streets in Little Rock to its present location in January 1976.

When the Arkansas General Assembly created the Arkansas Technical and Community College System in 1991, Pulaski and 12 other vocational-technical schools became technical colleges under the coordination of the Arkansas Board of Higher Education.

Pulaski Tech, a comprehensive two-year college, offers associate degree and certificate programs for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges and universities and/or for career preparation and advancement.
