Tees Valley Youth Orchestra
- Tees Valley Youth Orchestra
The Tees Valley Youth Orchestra is the flagship orchestra of the Tees Valley Music Service, and welcomes the best music students across the four boroughs of the Tees Valley (Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees and Billingham). The orchestra rehearses every Friday night from 6.30pm until 9.30pm in Stockton.
Recent highlights of the orchestra have been a concert performance of the popular opera "Carmen" by Bizet, as well as the debut performance of Samuel Colderidge-Taylor's "Symphony in A minor", which had been lost for many years. The TVYO also performed "Mu Ara", a piece it commissioned from the popular composer Geoffrey Palmer.
The orchestra often forms a stepping stone for students into a musical career, and many students from the orchestra have gone on to play in National Youth ensembles.
The orchestra takes part in an annual European tour, and in recent years tours has visited France, Catalonia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Czech Republic. The Tees Valley Youth Choir join the orchestra when on tour abroad, and the two ensembles perform concerts together, often to packed, enthusiastic audiences.
