hiragana , or ツ inkatakana , is one of the Japanesekana , each of which represents one mora. Both represent (IPA) IPA|/tɯ/ although for phonological reasons, the actual pronunciation is Audio-IPA|Tsu_(Japanese).ogg| [tsɯ] .The
sokuon , which are used mainly to indicate consonant gemination, are identical but somewhat smaller. The
dakuten forms づ, ヅ, pronounced the same as the dakuten forms of the su kana, are uncommon. They are primarily used for indicating a voiced consonant in the middle of a compound word (seerendaku ), and they can never begin a word. For nonnative speakers, the pronunciation of つ or ツ may be difficult. It can be achieved by saying the word "cats", adding an "oo" sound ("catsoo"), then removing the "ca" sound.
