Open Source Initiative's Educational Community License is a free and open source license intended for use by academic institutions.Fact|date=August 2008 It is approved by the Open Source Initiative, and the Free Software Foundation lists the [http://www.opensource.org/licenses/ecl2.php second version] of this license as being a "GPL-Compatible Free Software License" that is compatible with version 3 of the GNU General Public License but not compatible with version 2.
