Hodes was born
March 21 ,1951 . After graduating fromThe Collegiate School , he entered college and received his bachelor's degree fromDartmouth College in 1972 and his law degree fromBoston College Law School in 1978. He worked underDavid Souter as AssistantAttorney General of New Hampshire from 1979 to 1982. During this term, he prosecuted the first white-collar crime case in New Hampshire to result in incarceration for the offenders. Hodes has been a performer and patron of the arts and entertainment community since his Dartmouth years; in the 1990s he was a leader in the creation of theCapitol Center for the Arts , and he serves on the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.Hodes ran as a Democrat for
United States Congress in 2004 against incumbentCharlie Bass in New Hampshire's Second Congressional District. Hodes received 38% of the vote.In the rematch held
7 November 2006 , Hodes defeated Bass 53% to 46% in New Hampshire's 2006 Second Congressional district election [ [http://www.wmur.com/politics/10254698/detail.html/ 2006 election results] ] . Once his fundraising outstripped Bass's in the first and second quarters of 2006, and internal polling showed him virtually tied with Bass, Hodes was added to theDemocratic Congressional Campaign Committee 's Red to Blue program, aiding his campaign.Hodes endorsed
