Australian Federation of Islamic Councils

The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) was founded in 1964 as an umbrella group for various Islamic groups or councils, and is considered Australia's most important Islamic organisation. The immediate past President of the AFIC is Dr. Ameer Ali.The 9 member organisations are; the Muslim Council of NSW, Islamic Council of Victoria, Islamic Council of Queensland, Islamic Council Western Australia, Islamic Council SA, Islamic Council ACT, Islamic Council of Tasmania, Christmas Islands Islamic Council and Northern Territory Islamic Council [ [http://www.afic.com.au/about03.htm ABOUT AFIC] retrieved 2007-01-26] .

Recent Events

As of 17 May, 2006, enquiry has been sought by Australian police into allegations by the AFIC treasurer Ikebal Patel that corruption is rife amongst AFIC, including fraudulent access to funds, software and data piracy, sexual harassment, pornography and other illegalities.
