History of the Brand
The PEANUT CHEWS brand celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2007. During this time, the candy has been produced solely in Philadelphia, PA.
1890 Goldenberg's Candy was founded by a Romanian immigrant, David Goldenberg. [Just Born, Inc.]
PEANUT CHEWS candies were first introduced in 1917. The candies were originally developed for use by the U.S. military as ration bar during World War I. The high energy, high protein recipe and unique taste made it popular with the troops. [Just Born, Inc.]
In 1921 Harry Goldenberg introduced the first wrapped PEANUT CHEWS candy for sale to consumers. [Just Born, Inc.]

In 2003 Just Born, Inc., a family-owned candy company in Bethlehem, PA purchased the PEANUT CHEWS brand and the Northeast Philadelphia manufacturing facility.
