village which is today in theWarmian-Masurian Voivodeship ,Poland . The village is part ofGmina Grunwald inPowiat Ostródzki . Prior to1945 it was withinEast Prussia .The immediate district is primarily known for two historic battles which took place there. On
15 July 1410 a united army of the Kingdom of Poland and theGrand Duchy of Lithuania , with additional mercenary troops fromBohemia , defeated theTeutonic Knights at the First Battle of Tannenberg in 1410.In 1914 during
World War I a German army under the command of Field MarshalPaul von Hindenburg won an important victory over two Russian armies in the Second Battle of Tannenberg who had invaded East Prussia.Tannenbergstellung refers to the
