30 April 1943 ) is anIsrael i politician. Formerly a member ofLikud , he joinedAriel Sharon 's newKadima at the end of 2005, and was made Minister of Housing and Construction and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. After the 2006 elections,Ehud Olmert appointed him Minister of Immigrant Absorption, before moving him back to the Housing and Construction Ministry in July 2007.Boim served as a company commander in the IDF Armored Corps. He was originally a teacher by profession, and has a BA in History and Hebrew literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was principal of the Comprehensive High School in Kiryat Gatand has served as an educational emissary to Mexico.
He served in the past as mayor of
Kiryat Gat , as well as Chairman of the Municipal Environmental Quality Association ofAshkelon District; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Economic Company ofKiryat Gat ; and Chairman of the Directorate of the Inter Regional Industrial Park ofKiryat Gat and the Lachish Region.He has been a
Knesset Member since 1996, serving in the 14th Knesset asLikud whip, head of theNegev Lobby, and head of the Knesset Delegation to the Annual Dialogue betweenIsrael and theEuropean Parliament . In the 15th Knesset he served as coalition andLikud faction chairman. He has served on the following committees: Education and Culture; Finance; Internal Affairs and Environment; Constitution, Law, and Justice; Foreign Affairs and Defense; House; Immigration Absorption; Foreign Workers.In the 16th Knesset, he served as Deputy Minister of Defense from March 2003 until January 2006, and as Minister of Housing and Construction and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from January-May 2006.
He is married and has three children, and lives in Kiryat Gat.
