Hockley, Texas

Hockley, Texas is an unincorporated community located in Harris County, Texas approximately 5 miles southeast of Waller and thirty-six miles northwest of Houston city limits on State Highway 6. The community was established in 1835 by George Washington Hockley.

The community serves as the main hub for railway traffic serving Houston, Austin, and many parts of central Texas. The Southern Pacific rail line is one of the community's major employers. The city is surrounded by grain farms and cattle ranches. Hockley is home to six-time World Champion Calf Roper, Fred Whitfield. He is the first African-American to win the World Championship and was also named the PRCA All Around Champion in 1999.

Hockley is the home of legendary racecar driver A. J. Foyt's ranch.

Geography

Hockley is surrounded by many larger cities including Hempstead, Katy, and Tomball.
