Despite many economic and social difficulties Transnistria has heavily invested in advanced communications technology. In recent years USA electronics Lucent Technologies were contracted to establish wireless high speed digital standard CDMA2000 1X for mobile phone and internet users in Transnistria.
The updated network with the third generation (3G) mobile services allows data transmission with the speeds of up to 153 kilobits per second (kbit/s).
