Phi Society of 1883

Phi Society of 1883

Formerly Phi Delta Theta. The members of Phi Delta Theta left the national fraternity to form the Phi Society of 1883 as a local fraternity because of conflicts of interest with the national organization. Currently there are two Phi Societies.

The Phi Society of 1883 members, commonly referred to as the "Phis," maintain many old Phi Delta Theta traditions. While most of these traditions remain part of secret and sacred Phi ritual, several have emerged into public view and are indeed recognized as normal conventions of the fraternity.

There are currently two Phi Societies. One is located at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. The other at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, which is chartered as simply Phi Society.
