- Frieze Frame
Frieze Frame is the brand name of one of the first ever do-it-yourself
mural designs. The product is the brain child of Roger Hayes of Liverpool, England who first thought of the idea in 1989. The idea was to create from printed design features either a wall frieze or a picture in a frame hence the name Frieze Frame.Frieze Frame designs are precut lithographically printed design features, which when applied to a painted (or wallpapered) wall give the appearance of a professionally hand painted mural. Designs are printed usually on a 115 gram MG (machine glazed) poster paper which is finished with a waterproof seal. The first Frieze Frame design was the railway theme which Roger created in 1990 for his then 2 year old son Charles. This was followed by the jungle, underwater world, woodlands, teddy-bears picnic, prehistoric park, grand prix, clowns, dolphins and space design created between 1991 and 1998
The earlier versions of Frieze Frame were uncut, requiring enthusiastic users to cut out all of the design features themselves. The product was precut from 1995. Application is by ordinary wallpaper paste with border adhesive being used if being applied on top of a vinyl wallpaper.
