"The Genesis" is the first track on Nas' debut album "Illmatic". It begins with the sound of subway trains before a sample of Main Source's "Live at the Barbeque" plays. The specific sample features Nas delivering the first six lines of his music career. Once that sample ends, a sampled dialogue from the 1982 film "Wild Style" plays. As Hector and Zoro, two characters from "Wild Style" converse, a sample from the song "Subway Theme" by Grand Wizard Theodore and Chris Stein is used.
