Toshiba HD-A1

Toshiba HD-A1

Introduced in April 2006, the Toshiba HD-A1 was the first HD DVD player released to the retail market. It was superseded 7 months later by the Toshiba HD-A2.

pecifications

At introduction, the HD-A1 supported TrueHD in stereo (2-channel) mode only. A subsequent firmware update, which shipped sometime after launch, added 5.1 support for TrueHD. All HD-A1 units can be upgraded in the home, using either a 10/100 ethernet-based internet connection, or a factory-supplied upgrade CD-ROM.
