In 1837, Aslanbegov graduated with honours from the Naval Cadet Corps. He started his military career by serving in the
Baltic Sea . After obtaining his officer rank he began serving in theBlack Sea navy. Aslanbegov participated in theCrimean War of 1854–1856 and fought alongsidePavel Nakhimov during the Siege of Sevastopol. In the late 1850s and the 1860s he continued to serve in the Baltic and the Black Sea, and sailed across theMediterranean . In the early 1870s he was member of the committee in charge of developing the sea-borne trade. In 1879 Aslanbegov was appointed Commander of thePacific Ocean Squadron. In 1881 he circumnavigated the globe from the Baltic throughNorth America andAsia-Pacific to theFar East where he served until his retirement in 1882.
