"Jesus Freak" is a a song written and recorded by CCM group dc Talk. The song was the first radio single released in a support of their fourth studio album, "Jesus Freak". The song's title refers to the 1970s generic term. Group frontman Toby McKeehan said that when he was looking up the word "freak" in the dictionary, he saw an entry that said "ardent enthusiast". Since then, many of the group's fans wear products with the term to events featuring any of the three solo projects. "Jesus Freak" has been covered by Larry Norman and many other bands of the Christian rock genre. On the dc Talk tribute album, "Freaked!", both 4th Avenue Jones and Chasing Victory recorded covers of this particular song.

Tuning

The track has three separate tunings used for the guitars. People who thought originally that it was recorded and performed tuned a whole step down will be surprised to learn that it's actually recorded with an acoustic in Standard tuning, and two electrics tuned a half step up (low to high F-Bb-Eb-Ab-C-F) from standard tuning for one, and the other is a variation of the half step up tuning(low to high F-Bb-D-Ab-C-F).
