Jerome Alan Cohen is a professor of law at
New York University School of Law and an expert in Chinese law. His Chinese name is Kong Jierong (孔傑榮).Biography
Cohen received his
B.A. degree fromYale University in 1951 andJ.D. fromYale Law School in 1955.Cohen joined the faculty of
University of California at Berkeley School of Law in 1959, then moved toHarvard Law School in 1964. He became a Professor of Law at New York University School of Law in 1990.He currently serves as Of Counsel for Paul Weiss.Cohen was influential in securing the release of
John T. Downey in the early 1970s. Downey had been held in a Chinese prison since the Korean War.Cohen also enjoys fame in Taiwan for been the mentor of incumbent president Ma Ying-Jeou during the latter's study at Harvard Law School.
