Grindheim is a former municipality in
Vest-Agder county, Norway.It was created by the split of
Bjelland og Grindum municipality onJanuary 1 1902 . At that time Grindheim had a population of 909.On
1 January 1964 Grindheim was merged withKonsmo and the districts of Ågedal and Midtbø inBjelland to create the new municipalityAudnedal . Before the merger Grindheim had a population of 701.The name
The municipality (originally the parish) was named after the farm Grindheim (
Old Norse "Grindheimr"), since the first church was built there. The first element is "grind" f 'gate, wicket' (or maybe "*grind" f 'sand, gravel'), the last element is "heim r" m 'home, homestead, farm'.Until 1889 the name was written "Grindem", in the period 1889-1917 "Grindum", from 1918 on "Grindheim".
