Lemon (poet)

Lemon, born Andrew Anderson (1975–) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City.

Lemon is a critically acclaimed poet, spokenword artist, and actor. As a poet he has the most aired episodes on HBO's Def Poetry, eight times in six seasons, and was an original cast member of the TONY Award winning Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on Broadway. Lemon was also nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his writing and work on the show. Lemon has traveled the spokenword and theater scene for the last decade performing and selling out venues such as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Apollo Theater, Chicago Theater, Hollywood’s Kodak Theater and most recently he brought the house down in front 500,00 people at Philadelphia’s Live 8 concert. Nike also chose him to write a piece to help them sign young basketball star Lebron James.

He has recently shot three films with Spike Lee, "Sucker Free City”, "She Hate Me" and spikes latest "Inside Man" in which Lemon starred opposite Denzel Washington and Clive Owens.Fact|date=November 2007 His theatre credits include "Slanguage" directed by Jo Bonney, “The Ride” at Ps 122 and "U" at the Mark Taper Forum, as well as teaching performance art workshops at different colleges, universities and institutions including Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Massachusetts and Sing Sing Prison.

Lemon is currently starring in a one person show titled "COUNTY OF KINGS the beautiful struggle" which has been developed and produced through The American Place Theatre's Literature to Life program [http://www.americanplacetheatre.org/stage/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=99&Itemid=27] . The performance has been staged at schools around the nation, The Public Theater's Joe's Pub and will soon be staged at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art's annual Time-Based Art Festival.
