David Monk is an
Australia n emigrant who has been living inChampaign-Urbana ,Illinois , since 1961. He is the founder of theHeartland Pathways organization.Personal life
Monk attended college at the
University of Sydney in his native land, attaining a degree inagriculture . He first came toIllinois in 1961 seeking an assistantship at to theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign .Heartland Pathways
In 1983, Monk founded a non-profit organization, Heartland Pathways, in order to restore the community's landscape. The organization has acquired more than convert|33|sqmi|km2 of prairie in the Champaign area.
Monk's work mostly revolves around the restoration and preservation of the area's historic buildings, bridges, railroads, and cemeteries.
Media
David Monk hosts a Sunday talk show, "The Prairie Monk", on the radio station WEFT Champaign 90.1, which he lives next door to. He also occasionally writes an article on one of his favorite projects,
