"Lily C.A.T." is a science fiction anime movie released in 1987. Carl Macek, best known for producing and story editing Robotech, produced the English version of the film. Famous Japanese artists and illustrator "Yoshitaka Amano" is co-credited for character design, and monster design as he created the gruesome forms of the alien.

Visually and thematicly, the film has many aspects in common with the American science-fiction/horror film "Alien"- specifically, the first film. The film is set in the 23rd century, when companies are now surveying distant planets for mining rights. The Sincam corporation is investing a relatively new planet and has hired the Saldes (a deep-space cruiser), to shuttle company surveyors to check it out.

En route, the ship's computer detects debris flying through space and collects a sample, but the extraterrestrial matter gets loose in the ship while the crew and the surveyors are in "cryogenic" sleep. The ship crew learns that two of the surveyors are imposters, but the real trouble starts when one of them is found dead from a mysterious infection.

The bacteria quickly evolves into a hostile life-form capable of mimicking the form of its human victims. The creature continues to terrorize the remaining humans as it morphs and becomes stronger. (Its shape changing ability is clear reference to the 1982 John Carpenter Film "The Thing (film)").Fact|date=July 2008 The vicious monster continuously changes form as it hunts down the crew- capable of metabolising both organic matter and the metallic infrastructure of the ship.

The only hope for survival may be on the lush planet just outside the ship... if anyone can survive long enough to reach it.

Trivia

Dorothy's nationality is never clarified, she is remarked as being from the "Hong Kong Office", but has a degree from Washington University. Her surname of Van Fallah never comes up in the English script. As the film was made in 1987, Hong Kong is referenced independently from China.

Morgan is the only person to bring a weapon- a compact 12-gauge shotgun. The crew and the ship have no weapons or offensive capability. However, it's clear that the use of weaponry is still understood. The Captain and Jimmy build flamethrowers to cut through a door, but that are also powerful enough to fight off the alien. The ship creates an artificial gravity field for the interior of the ship, however it is lower then Earth's gravity. Two characters reveal that drug-use has heavily infiltrated Earth and the lunar colonies.

The crew wear a number of contemporary 1980s-style clothing. Captain Hamilton has a fur-lined jacket and Dick Barry wears a "letterman" type jacket, and others can be seen in camouflage trousers, baseball jerseys and Hiro has a sleeveless leather jacket on. Nancy wears a bright 80s pop outfit, complete with candystriped leggings and a headband.
