Josef Goubeau (born
March 31 ,1901 inAugsburg ,Germany ; diedOctober 18 ,1990 inStuttgart ) was a Germanchemist .Life and work
Goubeau studied
chemistry at theUniversity of Munich starting from 1921 and attained a doctorate there 1926 over the atomic weight regulation of thepotassium in the group ofOtto Hönigschmid under the supervision ofEduard Zintl . Subsequently, he worked on theUniversity of Freiburg , the mountain academyClausthal-Zellerfeld , where he made his postdoctoral lecture qualification in 1935 over theRaman effect in analytical chemistry. Starting from 1940 he became a university teacher at theUniversity of Göttingen , and since 1951 professor at theTechnical University Stuttgart . His focus of activity was the inorganic synthetic chemistry andspectroscopy of compounds ofboron ,silicon andphosphorus . Most important was his fundamental work about the "Schwingungspektroskopie" and toforce constant s as measure of the strength of chemical bonds.Honours
