Silver Spurs

Silver Spurs

The Silver Spurs is the honorary service organization responsible for the caretaking and transportation of the University of Texas Longhorn mascot, Bevo.

Founded in 1937, the charter members felt that there was need for another spirit-service group on campus. Silver Spurs were created with the purpose of being responsible for the school’s mascot and to provide philanthropy around the city of Austin, Texas.

Silver Spurs are student leaders with great pride in their school and caretaking responsibilities. They exhibit excellence on campus and beyond, whether it is holding positions in Student Government, the Senate of College of Councils, or Texas Union Board; the Silver Spurs have acted as leaders on campus and in the Community. Every semester, the Silver Spurs put forth involvement in the Austin community by working at local food banks and tutoring students at local school in the Neighborhood Longhorns Program.

Purpose of the Silver Spurs

A tradition of unselfish devotion to life at the university. By becoming a Silver Spur one will be assuming a consciousness and a responsibility to share with us in making our school, as its founding fathers hoped, genuinely of the first class. It is an honorary service organization that helps manifest the fellowship, service and purpose implicit in the University. Members care for Bevo, the Longhorn mascot, and support all Longhorn activities both academically and athletically.
