Riau Airlines is an airline based in Pekanbaru in the Indonesian province of Riau, Sumatra. It operates domestic and international services. Its main base is Sultan Syarif Qasim II International Airport, Pekanbaru Flight International 12-18 April 2005] .

History

The airline was established on 12 March 2002 and started operations in December 2002. It is the only one of Indonesia's commercial airlines headquartered outside the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta. It is located in the city of Pekanbaru, Riau. It is also the only commercial airline owned by local government. It is owned majority by the Government of Riau and some other provinces such as Lampung, Bangka Belitung and Bengkulu. Aside from Provinces, it is also owned by some Cities and Regencies within Sumatera Island.

It was previously formed to abridge cities within Riau province which has many airports, however, it has expanded it's area of operations which currently are connecting all major cities in Sumatera island. It even expanded to Kalimantan / Borneo island.
