She was the youngest swimmer to represent England in theCommonwealth Games when she qualified for the2002 Commonwealth Games inManchester , where she won a bronze medal in the 4×100 m medley relay. Despite missing out on qualification for theUnited Kingdom swim squad at the2004 Summer Olympics inAthens ,Greece , Haywood qualified for the2006 Commonwealth Games inMelbourne ,Australia , where she won a silver medal in the 4×100 m medley relay.She won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award in 2003.
Haywood currently studies at, and swims for,
