"Seattle Weekly" is a freely distributed newspaper in Seattle, Washington, United States. It was founded by Darrell Oldham and David Brewster as "The Weekly", and its first issue came out on March 31, 1976.

Ownership/management history

The paper is currently owned by Village Voice Media which also owns the "Village Voice" and other alternative weekly newspapers that are distributed to readers free of charge each Wednesday.

Former owners of the "Seattle Weekly" include Sasquatch Publishing/Quickfish Media, Seattle from 1976-1997; Stern Publishing, New York from 1997-2000; and Village Voice Media, New York from 2000-present.

In July 2006, longtime editor-in-chief Knute Berger announced he would be leaving the paper. Competition

Its principal competitor is "The Stranger", an alternative weekly paper in Seattle.
