- World Snooker Championship 1994
The 1994 Embassy
World Snooker Championship took place at theCrucible Theatre ,Sheffield , between the16th April to the2nd May 1994 .Notable Moments
* The final between
Stephen Hendry andJimmy White turned out to be the best of their 4 World finals together with Hendry winning 18-17. With White in amongst the balls and the finishing line in sight, he missed a routine black off the spot, from which Hendry duly cleaned up. It was to be White's sixth and final appearance in a World final, and he seems destined to never win a World title at this stage.
* Hendry's hopes to win the 1994 title seemed dashed after he fell in his hotel room in Sheffield and broke his left arm. He had beatenSurrinder Gill in the first round 10-1 before the incident happened. Hendry carried on despite the accident and beatDave Harold ,Nigel Bond andSteve Davis (which win Hendry needed to win to keep his number one spot in the World Rankings) before beating White in the final.
* The tournament also featured one of the most remarkable comebacks in its history -Cliff Thorburn ledNigel Bond 9-2 before losing 10-9. This was Thorburn's first appearance at the Crucible since 1990 and 1994 would be his last year there.
*Alex Higgins also made a return to the Crucible where he playedKen Doherty which would also be his last appearance in the World Championship. He lost 6-10.
* Higgins' fellow IrishmanDennis Taylor also made his last appearance as he lost toRonnie O'Sullivan 6-10 and dropped out of the Top 16. He was the only original player left since the rankings were formed in 1976. He was also the last original player to play at the Crucible every year since the first championship in 1977.Prize Money
