Thorale Madhavrao Peshwa made developments and renamed it as Budhwar Peth when they got the power in their hand. "Vishram baugh Wada", "Belbaugh" and "Gramdevata Jogeshwari" are the historical proofs of Budhawar Peth. It is said that when Shivaji got married to Saibai, they first visited Gramdevata Jogeshwari.Today, Budhwar Peth is a business area particularly for electrical goods market, Books and traditional things. Some of the famous Places here are Jogeshwari Temple, Dagdusheth Ganapati Temple, N.M.V High School, Laxmi road, and Appa Balwant Chowk. Dagdusheth Ganapati Temple (Ganesha Temple) is believed to be the richest amongst all Ganesh TemplesFact|date=November 2007. The Lord Ganesha icon in the temple is worshipped for obstacle removal. It is also laden with several lakhs of rupees of gold.
The place also boasts of being the producing hub of automated taxi meters for most of the autos/rented car in India.
