Deeping Gate, Cambridgeshire

Deeping Gate, Cambridgeshire

Deeping Gate is a small hamlet, lying on the River Welland and located in the traditional county of Northamptonshire, now in the Peterborough unitary authority. With a very small population, void of any major services, including a post office or even a chapel, the community is very conservative and insular and depends on nearby Market Deeping for economic and market services.

Most of its inhabitants tend to be retired or commuters, many of whom protested at the recent intention of one inhabitant to construct a telecommunications mast on his land. There are also many people in the agricultural sector living in the settlement. As a result of its status on the edge of The Deepings, as well as the fact that to get to nearby Peterborough, one must pass through the settlement, Deeping Gate has become the butt of jokes for people living in the local area.

Deeping Gate is in the UK parliamentary constituency of North West Cambridgeshire.
