- European Master in Molecular Imaging
European Master in Molecular Imaging (EMMI) is the first Master program in Europe (M1 + M2) exclusively dedicated to
molecular imaging .It is an initiative from the active collaboration developed within the EMIL network of excellence (European Molecular Imaging Laboratories) that is federating since 2004 the efforts of 59 public and private research centers and organisms.
This interdisciplinary Master is promoted and financially supported by the
European Commission and is situated at the crossroad of multiplesciences united by Molecular Imaging. Its ambition is to ensure a high level teaching program from which will emerge scientists destined to work in research as well as in the industrial field. As a European training program EMMI is held in parallel in four countries:
France ,Belgium ,Greece andItaly . In order to optimize the exchanges between all the students and the available human resources, three types of courses are provided:
*a) E-learning.
*b) Annual conferences held in one of the partner countries in which all students will participate.
*c) Courses with a lecturer for a small group of students. (This represents the majority of the mandatory modules of the program.)The diverse courses are well structured and facilitated by an Internet plateform that allows permanent exchange and communication between students, lecturers and organisers of the master.
In order to finalize the teaching program, a mandatory internship take place. Students choose among over 40 EMMI habilitated European laboratories on universities or industry, to get experience on professional activity or in research.
An European Master Program
*Semester 1 - Update of students' knowledge - Molecular Imaging is a multidisciplinary field. Due to this, the curriculum begins with an upgrading of the different fundamental disciplines involved. The knowledge of these disciplines shall be solicitated during the entire curriculum.
*Semester 2 - Specialization - A course shall be dedicated to each of the Molecular Imaging techniques, serving as a prelude to the multidisciplinary fundamentals which are essential in the field.
*Semester 3 - Application - The third semester begins with the validation of the certificate for animal experimentation which is mandatory in Europe. Once this certificate obtained the EMIL students will all be united in a face-to-face meeting in order to be introduced to major subjects such as the stakes of Molecular Imaging within the industrial field or the last advancements in research.
*Semester 4 - Internship - To be carried-out in one of the EMMI habilitated laboratories, this internship offers experience in research or industry, associated with optional courses held in a European country. This last phase of the program is finalized by the student's oral presentation of his or her internship report before a jury of experts that will enable the student to obtain the last ECTS necessary for the deliverance of the diploma.Target Groups
#Students having already acquired at least 180 ECTS in an associated science in the biomedical field: chemistry, biology, biotechnology, medicine, engineering, etc. In this case, EMMI includes a complete Master teaching program (M1 + M2).
#Confirmed scientists with a need for continuing education in the field. For them the proposed courses within the EMMI framework can be followed as individual training courses.ee also
