Michael Scofield tells the team they have to stake out either English, Fitz or Percy. A flashback shows a tattoo of the three names on his forearm. Meanwhile, Secret Service Agent Kellerman (Paul Adelstein ) and Hale pay a visit to WardenHenry Pope , asking why the transfer was denied. When the Warden refuses to change his mind, Kellerman exposes a secret from Pope's past, and threatens to reveal the secret to Pope's wife. Pope is clearly torn. He reviews his past; flashbacks of a young man lying, apparently dead, on the ground are shown. Newspaper captions reveal that these scenes are from Toledo. The four members of the escape team: Michael, Sucre (
Amaury Nolasco ), Lincoln (Dominic Purcell ), andJohn Abruzzi (Peter Stormare ), meet to speak about the plan. Both Abruzzi and Sucre looked confused on why they were going to conduct a discussion regarding their escape with a death row inmate included at present company. Lincoln, on the other hand, was looking menacingly at Abruzzi; he apparently has yet to forget what the latter did to Michael on the earlier episodes. Michael reveals that to succeed, they will have to take out either English, Fitz, or Percy.PI concludes for the day and the convicts return to their cells, however when Michael returns to cell 40, Warden Pope is waiting inside. Pope informs Michael that he is to be transferred the following day. A shocked Michael asks for 3 more weeks, as Lincoln Burrows is due to be executed then. Pope asks what that has to do with him to which Michael replies "because he's my brother". Warden Pope replies that he can't do anything to help Michael, as he is up against higher authorities.
Michael finds
Charles Westmoreland and asks if there is a way to block a transfer to which Westmoreland replies "there's about 50 ways". Michael takes Westmoreland's advice, and writes a transfer block letter citing that he suffers fromsinusitis . A transfer block takes a month to clear up, and Michael knows he will be out of Fox River by then.Michael tells Abruzzi to get him a key to the warden's office. Abruzzi does this by melting toothbrushes into a stolen mold. Towards the end of the day, Michael, while constructing the model of the Taj Mahal, tells Pope that the structure will collapse if he does not remain there to hold the piece as the glue sets. Warden Pope leaves for the day and Michael immediately uses the replica key to leave the office through the back door and reach the roof.
Pope goes home to find Kellerman and Hale waiting there. They threaten him about his son, and tell Pope to lose Michael's transfer block. Pope returns to the prison to shred the documents before seeking solace with the prison chaplain.
Count begins and the guards realize that Michael is missing. An alarm is sounded, and Michael takes careful note of the police vehicles as they arrive. English, Fitz, and Percy are revealed to be street names- as the police arrive, English and Percy are swarming with police cars while Fitz is empty. Michael now knows the street the escape has to take place on and returns to the Warden's office, where he is found with the replica of the Taj Mahal. Nobody suspects anything. However, Pope says that Michael is not their problem anymore as he will indeed be transferred, to which Michael asks for more time as he is carried away.
Nick (
Frank Grillo ) and Veronica (Robin Tunney ) continue to try and find legal grounds to exonerate Lincoln. From the copy of the videotape of the murder, an expert believes that the gunshot sound was faked, but needs the original. However, they find it was destroyed in a "leak accident". When they return to Veronica's, they find the copy has been stolen. In his cell, Michael tells Sucre that Fitz Street was "as clear as day". A dejected Sucre is ordered out of Cell 40 by Bellick, and Michael is escorted out of the Prison as T-Bag, Westmoreland, Sucre, Abruzzi, Sara and Pope watch on. As Michael walks past Lincoln in the yard he says he is sorry. Michael arrives at the gate, where in the distance a bus is ready to transfer him. However, Warden Pope shows up and says that Michael filed a transfer block, and he must return to his cell. Adjacent to the bus, a car with Kellerman and Hale waiting inside is shown as Pope stares them down.
Pope returns home where he makes a full confession to his wife about his earlier life, impregnating a woman with a son and then not being a part of his life.
