HMAS Tarakan

Two ships of the Royal Australian Navy have been named HMAS "Tarakan", after the town of Tarakan in Borneo, site of an attack by the I Australian Corps on 1 May 1945:
*HMAS "Tarakan" (L-3017), a tank landing ship commissioned in 1946
*HMAS "Tarakan" (L-129), a heavy landing craft commissioned in 1973
