Bushmills (in Irish: "Muileann na Buaise") is a village on the north coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Bushmills had 1,319 inhabitants in the 2001 Census and is 95 km from Belfast, 10 km from Ballycastle and 15 km from Coleraine. The town's name is derived from the River Bush, one of Northern Ireland's salmon rivers.

Demographics

Bushmills is classified as a village by the [http://www.nisra.gov.uk/ NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA)] (ie with a population between 1,000 and 2,250 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 1,319 people living in Bushmills. Of these:
*19.9% were aged under 16 and 22.1% were aged 60 and over
*49.2% of the population were male and 50.8% were female
*2.2% were from a Catholic background and 97.0% were from a Protestant background
*8.1% of people aged 16-74 were unemployed.

Places of interest

*The village is best known as the location of the Old Bushmills Distillery, founded in 1608, which is the oldest licensed distillery in the world. The distillery is the only Irish distillery using 100% malted barley in its whiskies, in a range which includes Bushmills Original, Black Bush and a range of malts, including the Bushmills 12 year old malt.
*Giant's Causeway, located 2 miles (3 km) north.
