Sholom Secunda (
4 September 1894 -13 January 1974 ) was a Jewishcomposer , born inUkraine and educated in theUnited States . He wrote the melody for the popular song "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen " in 1932. Together withAaron Zeitlin he wrote the famous Yiddish folk song "Dos kelbl " (also known as "Donna Donna ") which was covered by many musicians, includingDonovan andJoan Baez .Along with
Abraham Ellstein ,Joseph Rumshinsky , andAlexander Olshanetsky , he was one of the "big four" composers of his era inNew York City 's Second AvenueYiddish theatre scene.
