footnotes =RoboDynamics Corporation develops, manufactures, and distributes commercial hardware and software components that enable robotictelepresence (telerobotics ). RoboDynamics is best known for developing the "Robotic Personal Assistant" MILO, a mobile robotic platform. RoboDynamics is also the very first company to develop hacking and development tools for iRobot's Roomba robotic vacuum, allowing hobbyist, educators and developers to take advantage of the Roomba as a mobile robotic base while providing compelling robotic applications and accessories.History
RoboDynamics was founded in September 2003 by Fred Nikgohar with the goal of developing robotic technologies with emphasis on Robotic [Telepresence] . The first prototype robot (codenamed "Analog") was developed within six weeks, followed by "I/O" two weeks later. I/O was invited to a press-only event during Comdex 2003 where the notion of a Robotic Personal Assistant (RPA) was first introduced. The company incorporated in February 2004 and in October of the same year introduced its 7th generation RPA, "MILO" at the RoboNexus conference. Since then the company has been developing software and hardware technologies that enable Telepresence and communications infrastructure for various robots.
Technologies
RoboDynamics focuses on hardware and software technologies that enable Telepresence and Pervasive Robotics across various network infrastructures. These technologies take advantage of ubiquitous standards such as Bluetooth and WiFi to enable remote access to robots and their utility across multiple platforms and networks.
Products
MILOIn October 2004 RoboDynamics introduced MILO at the first annual RoboNexus conference in Santa Clara. MILO is a 3.5 foot tall Telepresence robot featuring an onboard PC and running Windows XP Pro and the RoboDynamics Platform SDK (RDP SDK). The RDP SDK is a robust real-time platform for distributed processing of various robotic tasks across local and wide area networks - enabling developers to create various telepresence applications that take advantage of Internet and other types of TCP/UDP networks.
Roomba Tools and AccessoriesIn January 2006 in collaboration with iRobot Corporation RoboDynamics launched RoombaDevTools.com, a comprehensive web resource for hacking and developing for the iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner platform. RoombaDevTools.com contains information, forums, galleries, software, and products for Roomba developers. It allows developers and hackers to use Roomba as a mobile robotic platform by creating software and hardware application - in the form of Accessories for the Roobma. The website carries products from RoboDynamics as well as other vendors.
Some of the products developed by RoboDynamics for Roomba include:
*
RooTooth - A bluetooth module bridging Roomba to any bluetooth enabled device over Serial Port Profile (SPP).
* [http://www.roombadevtools.com/ RooStick] - A USB communications bridge to connect a PC to Roomba.
* [http://www.roombadevtools.com/ Roo232] - An RS232 communication bridge to connect a PC to Roomba.Websites
