It serves student centers with programs in administration, finance, and management; campus life and programming management; auxiliary services; and facilities and operations. History

The organization was founded in 1914 as the National Association of Student Unions with members from Case School of Applied Sciences, University of Illinois, Indiana University, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Purdue University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Other names of the organization over the years have included American Association of Student Unions, Association of College and University Unions, Association of College Unions, and Association of College Unions – International.

ports, games and other competitions

The ACUI organizes the quizbowl events College Bowl (until its shutdown in 2008) and Honda Campus All Star Challenge (ongoing). The organization also hosts regional tournaments and in some cases national championships for students, in pocket billiards (pool, especially nine-ball, but also eight-ball and a modified form of straight pool), ten-pin bowling, table tennis (ping-pong), table soccer (foosball), air hockey, three-on-three basketball, racquetball, darts, dominoes, chess, several card games (including spades, Texas hold 'em poker, and euchre), rock-paper-scissors (rochambeau), Scrabble, poetry slam, and even several networked video games (including "Halo 3", "Dance Dance Revolution", "Madden NFL 08", "Guitar Hero III", and "Super Smash Brothers").Cite web|url= http://www.acui.org/content.aspx?menu_id=106&id=3150 |title=Regional Leisure Activities|publisher=Association of College Unions International|work=ACUI.org|location=Bloomington, Indiana|year=2008|accessdate=2008-02-07] ]
