Helen Jackson

Helen Jackson

Helen Margaret Jackson (born 19 May 1939) is a British politician. She was Labour member of Parliament for Sheffield Hillsborough from 1992 until she stepped down at the 2005 general election.

Early life

She went to the independent Berkhamsted School for Girls. She studied at St Hilda's College, Oxford where she gained an MA in Modern History in 1960. She went to the C.F. Mott College of Education (which later became Liverpool Polytechnic), gaining a Postgraduate certificate in Teaching in 1972. From 1960-1, she as assistant librarian at the Queen's College, Oxford. From 1961-2, she was an assistant teacher in Stoke on Trent. She was a teacher in Lancashire from 1972-4, and in Sheffield from 1974-80.

Parliamentary career

She was on the party's National Executive Committee.

Personal life

She married Keith Jackson in 1960, but divorced in 1998. They have two sons and one daughter.
