Teclis

Teclis

Teclis is a fictional character, a High Elf mage from "Warhammer Fantasy" fictional universe and games. He is arguably the most potent and powerful living user of magic in the entire Warhammer Fantasy world - his power is on a par with Nagash, the most powerful evil magic user in the Warhammer Fantasy world.

Teclis is the twin brother to the High Elf warrior, Tyrion. While Tyrion is fair and strong, Teclis is gaunt and frail, dependent on potions to lend him strength.

Teclis studied magic in the White Tower of Hoeth as a child, and soon his talent and awesome command of sorcery rivalled that of the High Loremaster himself. During the Great War against Chaos, Teclis took his first step on the road to destiny. The Dark Elves, with many Chaos allies had invaded Ulthuan, and seemed set to conquer the Island. Worst yet, the Everqueen, co-consort of all Ulthuan, had gone missing, as had Teclis's brother, Tyrion. Before he left, Teclis forged a magical blade, and was given an ancient Elf artefact of unsurpassed power, the War Crown of Saphery, by the High Loremaster.

Malekith the Witch King of the Dark Elves had sent his agents to hunt down the Everqueen and Tyrion. After discovering their location, Malekith sent a "Keeper of Secrets", a greater daemon of Slaanesh, to kill them. Tyrion had been poisoned in a previous battle with the Dark Elves and could not defeat the daemon, but Teclis arrived at the last moment, destroying the daemon with his magic. Using the lore he had been taught, Teclis restored his brother to full health. Together, the twins turned the course of the war. In the final battle, Teclis faced Malekith himself in a magical duel. When their private battle came to a standstill, Teclis invoked the power of the Moon Staff of Lileath, a gift from the Everqueen, to sculpt a bolt of magical energy and fire it at Malekith. Malekith was forced to cast himself into the Chaos Realm to avoid final death, leaving the Dark Elves leaderless.

After securing the High Elf homeland, Teclis, with his comrades Finreir and Yrtle, came to the Old World to aid the human Empire in their fight against Chaos. In addition to lending their own considerable magical prowess to the battles against Chaos, they also taught basic spells to the hedge-wizards of the Empire. Seeing what a pivotal role magic played in the war, Emperor Magnus the Pious lifted the ban on magic from his people and asked Teclis to educate them further in arts of spellcasting. To this end, Teclis founded the Colleges of Magic in the Empire. Upon his return to Ulthuan, he became the new High Loremaster of the Tower of Hoeth.

Teclis played a role centuries later in the Storm of Chaos, by supplying Swordmasters of Hoeth and a readily available Sea Guard to Emperor Karl Franz. Furthermore, Teclis destroyed the entire daemonic army of Be'lakor single-handedly.

In the book Giantslayer by William King, Teclis saves Gotrek and Felix when they are trapped in the Paths of the Old Ones. He meets Albion's Oracle, the head of an order of magicians known as the Truthsayers. He later kills two powerful Chaos sorceror and sacrifices a Truthsayer, Murdo, who voulunteered so that he could control the Paths of the Old Ones. This act saved all of Ulthuan from sinking and the rest of the world from falling to Chaos. He has also appeared in the book Tainted Blood by Nathan Long, where he dealt with a Chaos outbreak caused by a lapse in a local lodestone.

Teclis has also made appearances in many Warhammer stories. Notably the Gotrek and Felix series of novels (written mostly by William King) where he journeyed to Albion with the protagonists in the book, Giantslayer.
