Mark Thorburn

Mark Thorburn

Mark Thorburn is a British radio presenter who presents the 11am to 2pm Weekday Lunchtime programme on Metro Radio, in North East England and the 7pm to 10pm Sunday Evening Programme 'Magic at the Movies' on the Magic Network of AM Radio Stations across the northern U.K. All of these stations which he broadcasts on are owned by Emap.

Born in Buxton, Derbyshire in 1968, the son of Tom (Allen) and Eileen Thorburn, Mark grew up in rural North Staffordshire.

Radio career

Mark started his radio career in 1984 at Signal Radio in Stoke-on-Trent as a technical operator; this led to on-air broadcasting after time spent in commercial production.

Mark moved to Marcher Sound in Wrexham, North Wales to present the breakfast show in 1988. In 1991 he moved to Metro Radio in Newcastle upon Tyne and stayed for nearly ten years culminating in his three years heading the very successful Metro Radio breakfast show, one year of which was with Gabby Yorath (Gabby Logan) daughter of footballer Terry Yorath.

In 2000 Mark moved across to regional competitors 100-102 Century FM to present their lunchtime programme with Vicki Archer. After two years at Century, Mark took up the position of Network Programme Director for the Magic Northern Network of radio stations. After spearheading the re-launch of the Magic Network, Mark was invited to re-join Metro Radio and accepted. Mark returned to Metro Radio in September 2006 replacing presenter "Goffy" who had also worked at Century before moving to Metro.
