Lincolnshire ,England . The council is based inManby near Louth, and other major settlements in the district include Alford,Spilsby ,Mablethorpe ,Skegness , Horncastle andChapel St Leonards .It has an area of 1,760 km², making it the fifth largest district in
England . It was formed onApril 1 ,1974 , under theLocal Government Act 1972 , from the south-eastern area of the former administrative county ofLindsey . It was a merger of themunicipal borough of Louth along with Alford, Horncastle,Mablethorpe and Sutton , Skegness andWoodhall Spa urban district s, along withHorncastle Rural District ,Louth Rural District andSpilsby Rural District .East Lindsey borders
North East Lincolnshire and theHumber estuary to the north, theNorth Sea to the east,Boston (borough) to the south, andNorth Kesteven andWest Lindsey to the west.
