Syed Nasir Ismail

Tan Sri Syed Nasir bin Ismail (March 7, 1921 [cite book|title=Who's Who, Malaysia and Singapore|author=John Victor Morais|publisher=Who's Who Publications|pages=296|year=1969|isbn=] – 1982) was a Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of the Parliament of Malaysia. During his lifetime, he was known as an ultra who sought to guarantee the primacy of the Malay language in Malaysia through the closing down of Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools. A prominent politician from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) — the leading party of the governing Barisan Nasional coalition — he served as the 5th Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat from 1978 till his death in 1982.
