Jan Węglarz (born
1947 inPoznań ) is a Polishcomputer scientist .He studied at the
University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, where he graduatedmathematics in1969 , and later onPoznań University of Technology , when he received title from automatics in1971 . He started work there in 1971. He received a doctorate in1974 , and habilitation in1977 . In1988 he received title of professor. Member ofPolish Academy of Science (Polska Akademia Nauk, PAN), member-co-founder ofPolish Information Processing Society ("Polskie Towarzystwo Informatyczne", PTI), member ofAmerican Mathematical Society ,Operations Research Society of America and many, many others. Author of 12 monographs in Computer Science, Operation Research, Decision Theory, etc. Author of more than 200 articles. He discovered the so called two-phase method, but unfortunately he published his discovery in a Polish newspaper, so it was ignored. Western scientists received accolades instead. He refused many offers from the west and opted for his own research team in Poland. He has received too many prizes and decorations to list them all here, both in Poland and abroad.He participated in the construction of Polish computers
